FeRN was created in October 2009 as a response to requests by many people working in agriculture and food sectors, or living in the rural areas. They wanted an easy way to regularly keep in touch, to discuss and debate rural, food and countryside issues, and to be able to access information and news through a knowledge-exchange network.

FeRN is primarily an e-network involved in informing, discussing, promoting and representing UK food and countryside issues through education, lobbying, debate, and campaigning – majority of potential members looking for up-to-date opinion and information rather than to take part in activities

FeRN is about the every-day members taking control and developing the organisation. We are looking for members:

• To develop FeRN, its policies and objectives;
• To create and run local and regional networks - virtual or active;
• To set-up and run online discussion forums;
• To become involved in campaigning, lobbying and educating on food and rural issues.
